GTO Brake Upgrade Conversion

JDMing Update:

One of the most essential mods i think for any car is the stopping power, the brakes. Even experts say if you are looking to upgrade your braking system, and it so happens your type of car has a regular model and a sports model, because all the components are more or less the same, its real easy to fit sports model brakes to your current model. In this essence for the FTO, it is very different though. Owning the GPX is already the top spec trim from Mitsubishi, so what other choices do we have for improving braking???well.....

Option 1: Purchase better branded/aftermarket parts

  • brake discs
  • brake pads
  • brake calipers
  • brake hoses
Common Choices for the FTO:
  • EBC
  • Mintex
  • Ferodo
Option 2: Customised brake conversion (popular choices)
  • GTO Big Brake Conversion.
  • Wilwood Big Brake Conversion.
  • Brembo Big Brake Conversion.
  • AP Racing Big Brake Conversion
  • Some have used Aston Martin Brake Calipers
For me it was the Mitsubishi GTO Big Brake Conversion.

Also to compliment the front GTO brakes, i got matching brake discs for the rears. drilled and grooved ^_^. These will soon get a revamp though as i don't really like the colours.

Oh and yes my old drop links were worn, so i decided to change them for aftermarket whiteline flex ones ^_^.

ICE Sound System

JDMing Update:

With so many brands of speakers, head units and amplifiers, its such a hard choice to make. Especially when your reading someones review as well. One thing people don't take into account is that the other person maybe biased or the fact that every individual has different listening volumes.

Common brands people go for are like : JBL, JL, Mutant, Alpine, Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion. These are commonly found everywhere at very good prices too. I am not an expert so had to do a lot of research regarding each brand and the speakers i wanted. None of these appealed to me or was just out of my price range.

After much much research, i decided on an American brand called Polk Audio, reading their mission statement and reviews by many Americans and UK owners, i decided to go for the Db Series, as it was the most value for money and performance speakers.

A lot of people say the depth on the FTO door speakers isnt great and that 6.5" was the ideal speaker size to get. But after installing them i noticed i had plenty of depth and room left. So in the future i think i will be upgrading to components but also bigger speakers ^_^

Sound quality is brilliant good mid bass and clarity of vocals very high. I bought these on a trip to America so it only worked out to be around £35, which in my eyes are an absolute bargain for the sound quality. These were only running on the headunit at first until i upgraded and added the amps in.

After having 6.5" front speakers installed i also got some polk audio 6x9s to go with it.

Quick tip for someone who's looking to upgrade, once you've decide on the size and brand and quality you want go for it, i see speakers as a long term investment. Don't get budget speakers its just no worth it. My friend needed to change his front speakers and bought some kenwood £20 ones from halfords LOL. Im still laughing today as mine totally out beats his no competition.

With front and rear speakers sorted, it was time to level up with a sub and amp for better quality. My car when bought came with 2 x Alpine 500 watt 10" subs and a sony amplifier but there was something wrong with the wiring so it never worked, until i bought a new amp and went to the audio shop to hook everything up. HKS Gear Knob

JDMing Update:

OEM is always great, but aftermarket is even better, especially when it enhances whats originally a master piece.

The most common brand of car automotive tuning is MOMO. So well known that its not only an aftermarket brand but also a manufacturer of OEM stuff. For instance On the FTO, you will find that those with drivers airbag will have a MOMO manufactured steering wheel ^_^.

As for Gear Knobs, i never liked any of the styles. My FTO came with a momo gear knob which i soon replaced for a JDM HKS red and black Limited Edition Gear Knob bought from www.sumopowers.com

Carbon Fibre Wrap (Di-Noc 3M)

JDMing Update:

My ever first recognition and impression of 3M Carbon Fibre wrap was from a Japanese FTO website, where the person wrapped the bottom lower centre console with it. It looked absolutely stunning and real too. Till recently when 3M wrapping became more common in UK, i decided to give it ago myself.

During my trip to Hong Kong back in April 2011 i went to an automotive styling shop which sold the authentic famous Di-Noc 3M Carbon Fibre. When this was first introduced on the market i didnt get any due to the price. But now a days its reasonably priced and well worth it to give it that carbon look.

Example of Di-Noc 3M used.

Mitsubishi Ralliart FTO Car Mats

Ralliart FTO Car Mats. Truly goes well together. RED AND BLACK ^_^ Awsome

Originally the car came had Black mats with white trim. Which wasn't very nice as it got dirty easily and very noticeable.

Although there are many car mats available for the FTO especially on ebay for around the price of £24.99 and you can have any colour you want.

My Ralliart Car Mats, however are impossible to get now. They are ultra rare. A discontinued product by Ralliart.
